Ribbon Cut Marking White Rock Truss & Components, LLC Expansion in Lee County

SEDC News,

ROSE HILL, VA – SEPTEMBER 19, 2025 – Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin and a host of others cut the ribbon Friday marking the expansion of White Rock Truss & Components, LLC in Lee County, VA. The expansion will see the company invest $1.5 million in the project and create 27 jobs.

Established in Lee County in 2005, White Rock Truss & Components manufactures construction products including trusses and engineered lumber, which it supplies to home construction companies and home improvement retailers. The expansion will accommodate increasing product demand.

Youngkin noted he was pleased to be back in Lee County and told those present for the ribbon cutting they should all feel a great sense of pride in Friday’s event.

“To the folks who work here, if it wasn’t for your efforts, your leaders here would not have the confidence to expand and grow,” Youngkin said in crediting the White Rock Truss workforce for the work it does to build trusses which he said can be found in Taco Bell’s in Kentucky; houses in Ohio and locally; and even in Mexico. He highlighted the ripple effect of business growth and he credited the collaboration which occurred between all parties resulting in the expansion announcement. He acknowledged VCEDA’s role in funding for the project, adding, “nothing happens in Southwest Virginia without the huge work of VCEDA” and what he called “the hardest working delegation of any “in the General Assembly, referencing Del. Terry Kilgore and Sen. Todd Pillion, both of whom were in attendance for the ribbon cutting.

Youngkin previously noted White Rock Truss & Components’ expansion is a great example of the entrepreneurial spirit that defines Southwest Virginia and he added the investment being made not only supports Virginia’s strong manufacturing base, but also reflects the Commonwealth’s ongoing commitment to rural economic growth.

Secretary of Commerce and Trade Juan Pablo Segura also recognized the spirit of collaboration on the project, adding, “Virginia truly is the best place to live, work and to raise a family. Virginia is also the best place to start and grow a business. It’s all about confidence that tomorrow will be better than yesterday.”

“VCEDA congratulates White Rock Truss and Components and Lee County on this exciting expansion project which will not only add new jobs but will also help support the housing and construction market with the products which the company provides,” said VCEDA Executive Director/General Counsel Jonathan Belcher. “VCEDA was pleased to approve a $500,000 loan to the Lee County Economic Development Authority to assist with the purchase of equipment for the expansion project. It creates good jobs and good investment in the community.”

Project funding, in addition to that from VCEDA, also came from the state of Virginia with the governor’s approval of a $100,000 grant from the Commonwealth’s Opportunity Fund to assist Lee County with the project; and a $50,000 grant from the Tobacco Region Opportunity Fund, administered by the Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission.

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) supported White Rock Truss & Components’ job creation through the Virginia Jobs Investment Program, which provides consultative services and funding to companies creating new jobs in order to support employee recruitment and training activities.

Mike Kidwell, general manager of White Rock Truss and Components, who also serves on the Lee County Board of Supervisors, noted White Rock was grateful for the support provided for the expansion project and what the expansion will mean in the community.

Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry Matthew Lohr noted one of the Commonwealth’s priorities was to grow the wood products industry, adding the White Rock Truss project does just that.

“Today is another great example of success, an example of true collaboration,” he added.

Del. Terry Kilgore thanked White Rock Truss for its confidence in the Commonwealth of Virginia and Lee County.

“It’s good to see what we make and manufacture here in Lee County will go all across the Southeast and to Mexico,” he said of the trusses being built in Lee County. “You are not only succeeding here, but growing here.”

Sen. Todd Pillion, who grew up in Lee County, said he was pleased to be a part of the celebration and expressed his gratitude to White Rock Truss for its confidence in the county.

“This is proof of what happens when we all work together,” Pillion said. “Families will be able to stay here and the community looks to the future with hope and pride. It represents that Southwest Virginia is open for business and that the best days are yet to come.”

Lee County Administrator Robbie Wright and Lee County Economic Development Authority Board Member Mark Long noted the project is a continuation of a vision by the company’s late founder with the company and his family to continue to grow local manufacturing and to provide quality jobs and expressed their appreciation to White Rock Truss for continuing the company’s growth in Lee County.

Prior to cutting the ribbon to celebrate the expansion, Youngkin presented Kidwell with a Virginia state flag that had flown over the Capitol and asked White Rock Truss to fly the flag at its facility. A tour of the plant was also conducted giving the governor and other guests at the event an opportunity to see the plant and its manufacturing processes.

The White Rock Truss & Components team has 80 years of combined construction industry experience and has been serving southwest Virginia, eastern Kentucky and eastern Tennessee for the past 20 years.
