FloridaCommerce Awards More Than $7.2 Million for Critical Infrastructure and Resiliency Projects
June 25, 2026 - Tallahassee, FL – Today, FloridaCommerce announced another round of more than $7.2 million in awards through the Hurricane Ian Hazard Mitigation Grant Match Program (HMGMP) ongoing award cycle to support FEMA-required local match requirements for critical infrastructure and resiliency projects across Florida. These investments will help communities affected by Hurricane Ian strengthen infrastructure, improve emergency preparedness and reduce the impact of future storm events.
“Thanks to Governor DeSantis’ commitment to strengthening our state’s long-term resiliency, Florida communities are getting the support they need to bolster critical infrastructure and storm-readiness,” said Secretary of Commerce J. Alex Kelly. “Because of our strong partnerships with local governments across the state, Florida communities can rest assured that they will have the resources they need to future-proof their critical infrastructure, help their residents recover and ensure their businesses can bounce back—even when the storm has long passed.”
Today’s awards include:
- $5,828,552.00 – to Charlotte County for the Public Works Hurricane Safe Room Generator project.
- $93,392.25 – to Charlotte County for the Leachate Waste Plant Generator project.
- $283,996.00 – to the City of Palatka for the Lift Stations Generator project.
- $750,840.00 – to the Port of the Islands Community Improvement District for the Union Road Water Storage & Infrastructure Retrofit project.
- $319,437.50 – to Seminole County for the Shad Lane Mitigation Reconstruction project.
Since program inception, the Ian HMGMP has awarded more than $12 million in matching grant funds. The HMGMP provides FEMA-required local match funds for FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP)-funded projects. Eligible entities are local municipalities that have received FEMA HMGP funds from the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) for projects that are also Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) eligible and have tie-back to the declared disaster(s) for which funds were allocated.
