The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) is seeking a Director, Government
Relations in the External Affairs Division to coordinate the legislative efforts of VEDP staff
and leadership and conduct direct engagement to ensure positive and productive
relationships with federal and state elected leaders, the Administration, and legislative staff.
Responsibilities:
 Develop annual plan for policy and budget development and engagement with the
General Assembly
 Coordinate efforts of Legislation and Policy subcommittee of the VEDP Executive
Leadership Team
 Manage development of legislative and budgetary initiatives
 Develop talking points on policy and budgetary priorities
 Oversee and coordinate bill tracking process
 Monitor meetings of the General Assembly and provide summaries and key insights
 Review reports and findings from legislative bodies and draft summaries
 Coordinate development, review, and submission of General Assembly Studies
 Support External Affairs staff in engagement with core partners and major external
events
 Assist with special legislative, policy development, or VEDP Projects, as requested
Skills:
 Strong written and verbal communication skills
 Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, and implement projects; negotiate and resolve
problems; and formulate and communicate recommendations
 Knowledge of economic development process
 Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and thrive in a fast-paced environment
 Strong time-management skills, with the ability to perform well under pressure and meet
tight deadlines
 Experience conducting research and writing white papers, legislative reports, talking
points, studies, guidelines, or position statements
 Working knowledge of and experience with the legislative process and state government
 Highly skilled in the use of Microsoft Office; specifically, PowerPoint
Experience:
 Minimum of five years’ experience working in legislative affairs or similar experience
