Director, Business Development - KCADC
Position Title: Director, Business Development
Reports To: SVP, Corporate Attraction
FLSA Status: Exempt
Position Summary
This is a key role within the KC Area Development Council (KCADC) responsible for working closely with business prospects, site selectors, and community partners. With minimal supervision, the individual will manage a significant portfolio of office, technology, and data center recruitment projects from initial engagement through completion. Success requires strong organizational skills, detail-oriented execution, and clear communication. Based on qualifications and experience, this role may be considered at a Vice President level.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and day-to-day follow-up in all aspects of business recruitment and project management.
- Focus on sectors including headquarters, shared services, digital health, cybersecurity, defense, and data center operations.
- Build meaningful relationships with community and state economic development organizations, utilities, and commercial real estate professionals.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with KCADC corporate investor partners.
- Stay informed about new programs and trends shaping economic development at local, state, and national levels.
- Travel as required to pursue active projects, attend industry conferences, and develop relationships with site location consultants in other markets.
- Lead multiple projects simultaneously with strong attention to detail and follow-through.
- Take ownership of select KCADC campaigns to advance team goals.
Support and Secondary Responsibilities
- Assist in developing corporate and divisional goals relating to business development.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly reports for the Executive Committee, Board of Directors, and the Economic Development Alliance.
- Identify methods to stay within budget while maintaining high standards for project recruitment.
Education, Experience, and Skills Required
- A Bachelor's degree is required, along with at least 2 years of experience in economic development or a related field.
- Demonstrated success in business attraction, sales, or project management from concept through execution.
- Proven experience leading a core initiative or program showing ownership and follow-through.
- Strong existing relationships within the site selection community that are positive and well-established.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to represent the organization professionally.
- Demonstrated creative thinking and problem-solving abilities paired with sound judgment.High motivation and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy.
- Strong collaboration skills with a track record of leveraging team strengths to achieve shared goals.
- Interpersonal skills that foster respectful and professional relationships with staff and partners.
Compensation
The salary range is $ 80,000 to $ 110,000, depending on experience and qualifications. Competitive benefits are included. Candidates with exceptional qualifications and significant leadership experience may be considered at a Vice President level.
