Senior Economic Developer – Industrial

We are looking for a dynamic individual to be part of our Economic Development team.  The Senior Industrial Economic Developer will provide North Carolina public power communities with support to attract new business and development opportunities for economic growth, to attract investment and jobs.  This position will be located in Huntersville, NC.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Keep current records on sites and buildings and report any changes to county developers; keep files and statistics on county labor, demographics, maps, county profiles, and growth announcements.
  • Develop and maintain a list of site selection consultants and real estate firms in support of the ongoing marketing, communications and relationship building for the participants.
  • Assist members in the production of customer proposals by working with the Rate Analysts in both Power Agencies.
  • Assist in the selection of companies, development of materials and coordination for direct mail and digital marketing projects and recruitment programs to include trade shows and events outlined in the ED Business Plan as related to target sectors. Follow up with clients in a timely and relevant manner and maintain records on prospects in an approved database, currently ACT.
  • Maintain a network of contacts to identify potential industrial parks and commercial sites and promote existing industrial / commercial parks and sites.
  • Assist in the development of workshops relative to marketing and economic development activities for the participants. Assist with the marketing tools for the Economic Development Department including brochures, flyers, booklets, and ads for the members.
  • Maintain contact with the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, industrial developers, county developers, regional partnerships, community leaders and representatives of business / industry. Enhance the relationship with regional partnerships, local consultants, and real estate professionals to assist with project referrals.  Make presentations to the members on prospects/clients and be prepared for public meetings.
  • Assist with management of economic development grants and programs.

Qualified candidates will possess the following:

  • A Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business, Marketing, or Economics or equivalent work experience.
  • A minimum of three to five years of related economic development and/or business experience.
  • Familiarity with economic development activities; be flexible and able to accommodate short, client-imposed deadlines, which may require efforts outside of normal business hours; excellent interpersonal, communication and public speaking skills. 
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite. 
  • Demonstrated experience in data collection and analysis and establishment of databases. 
  • Considerable knowledge of the assets of the members and local, state, and federal laws pertaining to planning.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 75% outside the office and have the ability to work with the staff of member municipalities and local and state development organizations.
