Project Manager, International Investment
Overview. The Chason Group, Inc. has been selected to conduct a talent search for a professional to serve as an economic development Project Manager, International Investment for the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD). Tim Chason and Mark Lytle are working with the GDEcD on coordinating the search.
About the Georgia Department of Economic Development. The GDEcD is the state’s lead agency for attracting new business investments; encouraging the expansion of existing industries; and supporting small businesses. GDEcD is also responsible for identifying new markets for Georgia-made products; attracting tourists to Georgia; promoting the state as a destination venue for arts events and location sites for film, music, and digital entertainment projects.
Position Responsibilities. The Project Manager’s primary responsibility is to represent Georgia as the lead point of contact for companies considering a location within the state. This will include gaining an understanding of potential company location needs and the key project drivers. The Project Manager’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to site selection, data research, assistance with incoming international delegations, as well as building and maintaining relations with the international business community in Georgia to include bi-national chambers of commerce. The Project Manager will work closely with the Director, International Investment during the first several months once joining the GDEcD team.
Minimum Qualifications. Applicants for the Project Manager position should hold a Bachelor’s degree in business, international affairs, economics, real estate, marketing, economic development or similar field. GDEcD prefers the professional to speak English and French and/or German. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Other languages spoken are also an asset to the position. Experience in economic development and a demonstrated affinity with Europe is preferred
Professionals interested in the economic development field must possess a very strong commitment to customer service, customer support and becoming an advocate/problem solver for the prospects.
Key Attributes. The Project Manager will be working with international companies who are considering expanding into the U.S. and will assist them as they evaluate Georgia as a potential location for their investment. The individual must have a bi-cultural skill set, a strong sense of diplomacy, and the ability to respond effectively to a prospect’s issues through training and research.
Establishing site visits and bringing together the necessary stakeholders and partners will occupy a large part of the Project Manager’s time. Presentation skills and the ability to communicate with high-level decision-makers is key.
