Primary Purpose: 

Manages Norfolk Southern's industrial development effort in a single or multi-state territory to generate new freight revenue by locating new customers and facilitating plant expansions along NS lines and connecting short lines. Establishes and maintains relationships with industry contacts, government agencies, and allied economic development organizations at the state, regional, and local levels to ensure NS involvement in rail-using projects at an early stage. Participates in professional associations that promote economic development in assigned territory.  The territory assignments are subject to change based on current market conditions and economic development environment in the territory.

Principal Duties:

  • Coordinates among various NS departments (Marketing, Sales, Design & Construction, Engineering, Transportation, Environmental Protection, Real Estate, Finance, Law, etc.) and acts as a liaison with prospective industries to insure optimum results of new industry locations and expansions.
  • Works with economic development allies (state and regional agencies, local development authorities, major utility companies, etc.) to ensure that they are aware of the value NS Industrial Development can bring to a project, encouraging NS involvement at the earliest stage of a rail-using project.
  • Works with economic development allies and ID's Technical Services group in identifying, cataloging, and maintaining a current inventory of rail-servable industrial sites in assigned territory. Makes recommendations concerning the sale and acquisition of industrial property by NS within territory.
  • Provides pertinent information on active projects and issues to NS Senior Management on a regular basis.

Job Related Experience:

Minimum Level: 3 – 5 Years

Preferred Level: 6 – 10 Years

Education:

Preferred Level: Bachelor’s Degree (BS)

Preferred Majors: Engineering – Civil Engineering
