Position Announcement

Executive Director

Madison County Industrial Development and Building Authority (IDBA)
Danielsville, Georgia

Lead the Future of Growth in a Northeast Georgia Community

The Madison County Industrial Development and Building Authority (IDBA) is seeking a confident, collaborative, and results-driven executive to serve as its next Executive Director.

The IDBA has partnered with The Chason Group (www.thechasongroup.com) to lead the executive search.

This is an opportunity to lead economic development in a rural Northeast Georgia county positioned in the path of regional growth. The next Executive Director will build on a renewed economic development focus, available land for a future business park, and a comprehensive plan that sets a shared vision for the community. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop a business park, market the county's commercial corridors, attract quality small- and medium-sized investment, and help balance growth with Madison County's agricultural heritage.

The IDBA is seeking more than an administrator. It wants an apolitical, trusted leader who listens first, builds coalitions, and has the conviction to move a clear vision from discussion to results.

About Madison County, GA

Madison County is a rural community in Northeast Georgia, located between fast-growing neighboring counties and the Athens-Clarke County region. The area features an agricultural heritage, small-town character, and access to the Highway 72, Highway 98, Highway 22, and Highway 29 corridors. Madison County's comprehensive plan establishes a shared vision for growth. The county's assets include available land, a skilled workforce, strong schools, and recent community investments such as a golf course and T-SPLOST road improvements.

About the IDBA

Based in Danielsville, Georgia, the IDBA is dedicated to promoting economic growth, supporting industrial, trade, and agricultural development, and enhancing the quality of life for Madison County residents. Historically focused on infrastructure, including water service, the Authority has expanded its mission toward business attraction and has acquired land for a future business park. The IDBA works with Madison County, its municipalities, the Chamber of Commerce, the school system, state partners, landowners, developers, and businesses.

The Opportunity

The Executive Director serves as the IDBA's chief executive and principal economic development officer, leading its strategy, projects, properties, partnerships, and operations under the Board's direction.

Madison County's next chapter requires a balanced approach to growth, tax-base diversification, infrastructure, and agricultural preservation. The successful candidate must build consensus, communicate the benefits of quality growth, and stand by a clear vision while preserving key relationships.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is an accomplished, apolitical executive who combines development expertise with strong relationships. The Authority is particularly interested in candidates with:

  • Demonstrated economic development, real estate, or business attraction results.
  • Experience analyzing sites and working with developers.
  • Strong political judgment, neutrality, and credibility.
  • Experience balancing growth with community and agricultural priorities.
  • Excellent communication, coalition-building, and project management skills.
  • Relationships with state economic development partners, or the ability to build them quickly.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Significant progressive experience in economic development, real estate development, or related fields.
  • Equivalent education and executive experience may be considered.
  • Economic development organization leadership experience is preferred.
  • Relevant leadership experience in public-private partnerships, government, utilities, or regional organizations will be considered.
  • Georgia economic development knowledge and relationships are desirable.

Compensation and Benefits

The Executive Director of the Madison County IDBA is an employee of the Madison County Board of Commissioners and reports only to the IDBA Board of Directors. Benefits offered through the Board of Commissioners include health insurance, life insurance, retirement, vehicle allowance, and technology package. Other benefits may be negotiable.

Residency

The Executive Director of the Madison County IDBA is required to have full-time residency within 45 miles of the Authority's office.
