Job Description

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR

REPORTS TO: Choctaw County Economic Development District Board of Trustees

Job Summary

Establish the strategic direction for economic development in Choctaw County. Serve as chief economic development representative for the County. Responsible for overall administration and supervision of Choctaw County Economic Development District. Directs a staff and all business functions in the areas of Business Development, Marketing, Board Relations, Community Development, Workforce Development and Existing Industry as it relates to economic development.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Serves as chief economic development representative for the County. Markets the County and cities within the county to prospects, helps clients evaluate key location issues, find real estate solutions, engages appropriate state and local leaders and utilizes research information to develop proposals to companies. Utilizes experience with and knowledge of various aspects of economic development.
  • Develops and maintains cooperative working relationships with regional economic development partners, as well as municipalities, Mississippi Development Authority, TVA and other local/regional organizations and elected officials.
  • Leads various projects and initiatives set by the Choctaw County Economic Development District, and the Choctaw County Board of Supervisors.
  • Drives leadership on economic policy in the Represents Choctaw County Economic Development District through various public speaking engagements.
  • Advocates on behalf of state and local public policy related to economic
  • Develops, promotes and executes strategies for sustainable growth for Choctaw
  • Maintains memberships and proactive leadership in professional
  • Solicits public and private investment to support the annual programs of
  • Promotes and cultivates a strong communications network with partners and organizations to maintain strong relations, value and involvement.
  • Oversees Choctaw County Economic Development District programs of
  • Establishes priorities and goals for economic development Coaches and evaluates direct reports.
  • Supervises economic development budget process and execution to maximize use of funds and stay within budgeted amounts.
  • Supervises marketing initiatives to increase visibility of the
  • Directs team that produces programs for economic development events and board
  • Serves as media relations expert, when appropriate, on various economic development
  • Represents Choctaw County Economic Development at appropriate public and private meetings, including Board of Trustees, County Commission, and City Council meetings when necessary.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in economic development or related field
  • Certified Economic Developer (CEcD), Economic Development Finance Professional, and/or advanced degrees and trainings preferred
