The Southern Economic Development Council (SEDC), North America’s oldest and largest regional economic development association spanning 17 states in the American South, is seeking a dynamic professional to enhance membership development and engagement. The Director of Membership Engagement is responsible for the retention and engagement of active SEDC members and the development of prospective members. The Director of Membership Engagement will assist with the procurement of registration and investment throughout the SEDC and SEDC Foundation service portfolios, including the SEDC Annual Investment Program.
The Director of Membership Engagement will serve as the first point of contact for a growing membership and a visible SEDC representative throughout the service territory. The Director of Membership Engagement will further serve as SEDC representative, liaison, and administrative staff at all SEDC events, potentially including international business development missions. The Director of Membership Engagement will confidently represent SEDC to members, partners, government officials, and C-Suite-level professionals. The successful candidate will possess strong organizational, sales, and communication skills.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Membership Retention & Engagement
- Responsible for contact with membership to advise of SEDC services/programs and to ascertain membership needs.
- Responsible, under direction of SEDC President, for contacting members/partners regarding Annual Investment Program and event/initiative-specific sponsorship opportunities.
- Responsible, under direction of SEDC President, to engage and coordinate with SEDC State Directors to enhance state-specific membership retention and engagement.
- Responsible, under direction of SEDC President, to contact members/partners regarding leadership and volunteer opportunities within SEDC and SEDC Foundation committees, events, initiatives, or otherwise.
- Responsible, as advised by SEDC President, to satisfy monthly membership retention, portfolio engagement, and financial development goals.
- Responsible for archiving of retention and engagement correspondence within Association membership software.
Membership Development
- Responsible for developing SEDC prospective member database.
- Responsible for contact with prospective members to advise of SEDC membership opportunities and benefits thereof.
- Responsible, under direction of SEDC President, to engage and coordinate with SEDC State Directors to enhance state-specific membership.
- Responsible, as advised by SEDC President, to satisfy monthly membership development goal.
- Responsible for archiving of development correspondence within Association membership software.
Communications
- Responsible, under direction of SEDC President, to develop targeted and strategic communication materials and distributions necessary to achieve membership and financial development goals.
- Responsible for monitoring Governors’ Office press releases, Cabinets (or equivalent) for Economic Development/Commerce announcements, member social media, and relevant media outlets for notable news to inform congratulatory correspondence or SEDC service advisory notices.
Executive and Conference Services
- Responsible to Act as Assistant to SEDC President to complete tasks as assigned, including but not limited to assignments related to domestic and international travel and business thereof.
- Responsible, under direction of SEDC President, to staff meetings of SEDC Committees and Boards of Directors to advise of strategy and progress and to execute deliverables thereof.
- Under direction of SEDC President, complete all tasks assigned related to conferences, webinars, or events within SEDC and SEDC Foundation service portfolios.
Requirements
- BA/BS Degree
- Demonstrated experience in association management or economic development organization
- Experience securing and satisfying membership-related measurement goals
- Experience securing organizational and program investment
- Strong organizational, communication, and writing skills
- Experience managing a membership database
- Ability to manage multiple high-level relationships while concurrently leading or supporting multiple events and initiatives
- Ability to leverage technology and social media
- Willingness to travel within the United States and potentially abroad.
Work Environment
The Director of Membership Engagement is a remote work opportunity with travel required.
