Economic Development Director - Perry County GA
Overview. The Chason Group, Inc. has been selected to conduct an executive search for a professional to serve as Economic Development Director for the City of Perry, Georgia. Tim Chason and Randy Cardoza are working with the city’s leadership to coordinate the search.
About Perry, Georgia. The City of Perry is the county seat of Houston County in the heart of Middle Georgia. The historic community currently encompasses 16.4 square miles along Interstate 75 approximately 90 miles south of Atlanta. Perry has been able to capitalize on proximity to Robins Air Force Base, excellent schools, unique downtown, high quality of life, and location in transforming from a small town to a vibrant and growing community of 16,000 people. The population of the entire county is 153,479 based on 2017 US Census information.
About City Government. The mayor and a city council of six are elected by the registered voters of the municipality. A city manager serves at the pleasure of the elected body and focuses on the day-to-day operations. The council is the legislative body of the Perry local government that is responsible for adopting all ordinances and resolutions, approving the annual operating and capital budgets, setting all tax rates, approving the five-year Capital Improvement Program, setting all user fees, making land use and zoning decisions, and establishing long-range plans and policies.
Economic Development Director’s Role. As a city department head, the director serves as the liaison between the mayor and council, other department heads and the business community in the City of Perry. The director is responsible for the planning, development, implementation, monitoring, and assessment of all economic development activities for the city. Key focus areas include small business development,
Qualifications Required. Candidates for the position must have a bachelor’s degree, from an accredited college or university, in economic development, public administration, planning, business public relations, communications, marketing or a combination of these. Experience and/or knowledgeable in the practices and operations of local government planning, public administration, community engagement, strategic planning, and facilitation will be key factors for consideration by the selection team. Residency in the City of Perry service area is required with city residence preferred.

Vision, communication and proven leadership are three of the top areas the decision-makers will be looking for in qualified candidates.
