Director of Economic Development and Existing Industry
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
The Effingham County Economic Development Authority, located in Springfield, Georgia, is the economic development marketing agency for the county. The role of Director of Economic Development and Existing Industry is to help in the recruitment of companies in the targeted market areas of Advanced Manufacturing, Warehouse/Distribution and in cultivating and sustaining relationships with existing industry.
Education and Experience:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, marketing or a related field, ideally with an MBA, EDFP or CED designation
Minimum of five years’ experience in the economic and/or community development field or related area.
Facilitate and manage all aspects of a site location project, from initial contact, research, presentations, prospect visits, negotiations, location decisions and announcements,
Conduct an ongoing outreach and visitation program of all industries,
Coordinate industry appreciation events as needed,
Engage Effingham County’s existing industries through creating and implementing strategies and action plans to meet employee recruitment, retention, and training needs, as well as introducing workforce development services,
Work with industry to identify needs and assist in developing appropriate programs, training services, and other resources for hiring and maintaining a quality workforce,
Be available for informational phone calls regarding Effingham County to include being a point of contact for sales inquiries,
Develop and maintain personal relationships with economic development contacts including the Georgia Department of Economic Development, Georgia Power, Georgia EMC, Electric Cities, and developing and maintaining relationships with site consultants and real estate brokers,
Assist in community economic development efforts by becoming familiar with the marketable assets, local leadership, and building/site characteristics and working on regional initiatives,
Attend monthly Georgia Economic Developer’s Association (GEDA) functions, trade shows, prospect visits, etc. as needed,
Research and maintain demographic, utility, transportation, labor and industrial site data, and designing and updating collateral materials and updating the website,
Assist in industrial park planning, land asset management and infrastructure installation process. Work with engineers, counsel, and consultants in the development and maintenance process of all properties,
Oversee the preparation and implementation of the Capital Improvement Plan which includes planning, bidding, design review, and construction observation for all projects.
Apply for and be able to administer economic development grants/loans for infrastructure, deal closing and/or marketing, and being able to administer local fiscal impact analysis models
Attend all staff and Board meetings. Provide monthly reports to CEO/Board, when needed, and attend all IDA functions. Work with staff to ensure that all reports/attachments are ready for monthly meeting,
Keep CEO informed of all activities and projects,
Work ambitiously on long-term planning and growth of the IDA,
Be self-motivated to stay busy and on task,
Work as a team player with IDA staff, Chamber of Commerce and other organizations,
Perform other duties as instructed by the CEO. These duties will be within reason and within appropriate boundaries.
