Director of Research
South Carolina I-77 Alliance


Position Reports To:            President & CEO

Pay Status:                            Exempt

 

Position Objectives:
The following activities represent the key duties and responsibilities of Director of Research for the South Carolina I-77 Alliance.  The Director of Research has duties including identifying, analyzing, and organizing information for the Alliance.  At a basic level, this position is about utilizing information to position and brand the region.  It entails creating and managing a knowledge management system for the organization, and providing meaningful information for corporate decision makers, consultants, and stakeholders.
The Director of Research has outstanding and relevant academic credentials, preferably in economic development, and experience working with a variety of professionals, providing data and analysis for projects. The ability to work independently and without daily oversight is critical.  The ability to work with clients, investors, and economic development partners is imperative to the success of this position.  
This position reports directly to the President & CEO.  This position does require limited travel within the region, state, and from time to time to conferences across the United States.  

 

Duties & Responsibilities: 

§  Build and maintain information, perform basic research, and analyze information pertaining to the I-77 region

§  Conduct research and assist with the completion of RFIs for economic development leads

§  Prepare marketing research for publications, speeches, and collateral material used to promote the region

§  Assist in the follow-up to economic development leads generated during marketing efforts

§  Conduct proactive business development research to identify potential prospects for the team’s lead generation research

§  Act as liaison to local economic development agencies in research, marketing, and economic development capacities

·         Lead social media campaign

·         Maintain and update the Alliance web site

·         Monitor all marketing collateral for consistent accurate content; create additional collateral as needed

·         Performs other duties as assigned

Organizational and Professional Development 

§  Participate in state and national economic development and business organizations/associations when necessary

§  Attend various conferences and seminars for personal development efforts

 

Knowledge and/or Experience: 

§  A Bachelor or Master degree in business, public administration, economic development, economics, urban or regional planning, finance, international relations or related field. Mastered degree preferred.

§  Previous research experience for an economic development entity preferred.

§  Experience with Microsoft Office suite, Geographic Information Systems, Customer Resource Management software, and publishing software

§  Core competencies should include strong oral and written skills, strong interpersonal skills, critical thinking and problem solving, proven analytical aptitude, demonstrated success of working with groups and independently, ability to effectively prioritize and execute programs and initiatives in a high pressure environment.

The organization’s sole mission is to position and market Chester, Fairfield, Richland, and York Counties as a world-class business location to attract investment and high quality jobs to the region.
