Coastal Gateway Regional Economic Development Alliance (CGEDA) is a rural, five-county alliance of city and county government and business leaders located in Southwest Alabama committed to job development through (1) business expansion and retention, (2) new business attraction, and (3) community development.

The Executive Director serves as the lead economic development executive for CGEDA. The Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership and day-to-day operations of the Alliance, serves at the pleasure of the Alliance Board of Directors and reports directly to the Chairman of the Board.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

         Executive Director of the Alliance

         Effectively build relationships with the organization’s investors, city and county governments, existing industries, local economic developers, chambers of commerce, and state and regional partners to grow and diversify the economy of the Coastal Gateway Region (including the counties of Choctaw, Clarke, Conecuh, Escambia and Monroe).

         Generate, evaluate and recruit industrial/ commercial prospects that result in job creation and capital investment.

         Create a climate that will maximize positive economic growth through creative leadership.

         Create effective channels of communication with investors, the business community and local economic developers.

        Market the Coastal Gateway industrial buildings and properties. 


TYPICAL DAY-TO-DAY RESPONSIBILITIES
         Manage the finances and day-to-day operations of the Alliance.

         Implement the organization’s strategic plan.

         Build strong relationships with existing industry to ensure retention and encourage expansion.

         Ensure financial stability of the organization.

         Investor recruitment and retention.

         Board and committee coordination.

         Manage the staff as well as personnel issues as they arise.

        Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE / DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
     Proven track record in economic development with documented results, minimum 5 years direct economic development experience.

     Strong leadership and communication skills.

     Ability to deal in diverse business and political climates and situations.

     Comprehensive understanding of economic development theory and practice, including community development, workforce development and regional development.

     Previous management experience, preferably as Executive Director of an economic development organization, or strong related experience.

     College degree required; additional education and related certification a plus.
