Duties and Responsibilities of SEDC Board of Directors

  1. State Director
    a. Represents his/her respective state at all regular and called meetings of the Board of Directors.
    b. Is responsible for the respective state's membership.
       (1) Acts as State Membership Chair.
       (2) Coordinates with SEDC membership committee in the solicitation of new members and in the retention of existing members.
       (3) Explains the membership application procedure to state members by correspondence and at the annual conference state caucus meetings.
    c. Arranges for the state caucus at the annual conference, and arranges for the election of a new Director and Alternate Director at end of his/her terms.
    d. Corresponds with the respective state's SEDC members to inform them of Council activities and to obtain suggestions and ideas for use by SEDC Board of Directors.
    e. Assists the SEDC staff in tracing delinquent members and transfers.
    f. Coordinates efforts between SEDC and respective state development group.
    g. Endorses a conference site bid from a site in his/her own state.
    h. Accompany the new Director to the final Board Meeting of the Annual Conference for an orderly transition. However, only the outgoing Director may vote at the annual conference.
    i. Participate on at least one committee.
    j. Performs other duties as delegated by the Chairman, Executive Committee or Board of Directors.
    k. Promotes the Council's "Positions Open and Job Referral" service within their respective states.

  2. Alternate Director
    a. Is elected by the state caucus members at each annual conference.
    b. Serves in the absence of the State Director. Attends all meetings but votes only when substituting for an elected Director.
    c. Assists State Director in recruiting new members.
    d. Supports and supplements all efforts of the State Director.
    e. May be given special assignments by the Chairman.
    f. Responsible for disseminating information on legislative issues.
