SEDC Has a New Home

By: Dan Motley, SEDC Chairman

A new door opened for SEDC on Monday, July 1st, and that door happened to open into our new offices at 311 Nelson Street in the Castleberry Hill district of Atlanta.  This special event culminated an exhaustive six month search of many vacant offices all over Atlanta and highlights a really strong effort by Gene and Laura and all of the Task Force to put a new face on SEDC.

The office relocation task force established a good set of criteria for the search and for specific needs to support SEDC’s growth into the future.  We wanted to provide a great environment for our staff and also provide an opportunity for our membership to drop by the new offices to work while in Atlanta and also provide a space for functions by our members with site location consultants or for other purposes on a concierge basis.  This space accommodates all these requirements well.

Castleberry Hill is a really neat arts community with many amenities that will contribute greatly to our new environment.

A few specific points of interest on Castleberry Hill:

Castleberry Hill is a historic creative neighborhood in Downtown Atlanta
.

  • The area is known for its art galleries and the second Friday of every month is the Castleberry Hill Art Stroll.
  • The favored site for the new Atlanta Falcons football stadium is just a few hundred yards from the new office.  The community feels this is positive and will bring additional investment to the area.
  • The neighborhood association is very strong and we will be joining and get involved.
  • The area was known for manufacturing years ago…and has a gear/cog as the symbol of the community.
  • The railroad has played a strong role in the areas development and the sound of trains echo through the area on a regular basis.

I would encourage our members to drop by the offices when you’re in Atlanta and spend a moment with Gene and Laura and enjoy “our” new digs!

New SEDC President's Award to be given in August

On the recommendation of SEDC President Gene Stinson, a new award has been established by SEDC’s Board of Directors.  The President’s Award will be given to an outstanding committee Chairman that has demonstrated leadership and commitment to SEDC and its mission. Each year, the board approves a program of work that addresses the overall goals and mission of our association.  The various tasks and action steps are assigned to the most appropriate standing committees and special taskforces.

“We are a small staff at SEDC and we rely on volunteer committees to assist in carrying out the annual program of work,” said Stinson.  “This award gives the SEDC staff the opportunity to give much-due recognition to an individual that has gone above and beyond the call of duty.”

The award could be given annually by SEDC’s president at our annual conference.
