Register Today for Meet the Consultants

One Month Left Until Event!

The Southern Economic Development Council’s Meet the Consultants event is quickly coming together. This year’s event will be a little different, as we won’t be headed to the Braves’ game, but instead we invite all Meet the Consultants attendees as well as Atlanta-area site location consultants to join us for a fun interactive casino night at the Loews Hotel. All Platinum, Gold, and Silver sponsors will have the added exposure of being a “table sponsor” and will each have a blackjack, roulette, craps or poker table with their logo on it. The first hour of the reception will be open to sponsors only and the invited local site location consultants. It’s an event you don’t want to miss!

CLICK HERE to download the sponsorship brochure outlining the sponsorship levels. You can sponsor for as little as $2,500 and receive 2 complimentary registrations. Only 2 weeks left to register as a sponsor!

CLICK HERE for more information on the hotel, schedule, sponsorships, as well as registration pricing. CLICK HERE to download a paper registration form that can be faxed, mailed, or emailed back to the office.

Member Benefit of the Month

Connecting with Site Location Consultants

Many of you have seen the presentation from SEDC President Gene Stinson on ways to build relationship with site location consultants.  The presentation highlights the relationship building process and recognizes that there is no “cookie cutter” approach to building relationships and understanding consultants’ preferences on the best ways to communicate with them is very important.  As a follow up to the initial survey that produced these highlights, SEDC asked the same consultants specific questions that will help members to better customize a communications and visitation strategy.  SEDC members will now know the answers to questions like:

  • Will a consultant take meetings in their office from economic development professionals?
  • If yes, what are their preferred days/ times or other conditions (e.g., length of meeting), if any?
  • Are they open to accept invitations for familiarization tours and are there any special conditions?
  • What are their preferences on receiving email and snail mail?
  • Which market areas do they focus on for their primary business?
  • What percentage of their time is spent on projects in the SEDC region?
  • And, more!

To see consultants’ individual responses to the above questions and more CLICK HERE.  In addition, this information can be viewed in an Excel spreadsheet and sorted by various preferences.  For example, the list can be sorted to determine which consultants prefer email communications should the member want to send an informational email.  This valuable tool is sure to assist SEDC members in their relationship-building initiatives with site location consultants.  The database currently has information on 49 of the country’s top consultants and SEDC will continue to market this survey to consultants as a tool that will help customize how economic development practitioners market to them.  As new information is gathered it will be added to the database.

So CONNECT DEVELOP GROW with SEDC and this member benefit today!

Membership Recruitment Campaign

One month left for the 1st Quater Recruitment Campaign

The new year has begun and with it comes compelling reasons to get more people actively involved in the Southern Economic Development Council (SEDC). Those reasons include: better networking among our peers, more ideas and best practices can be shared; a stronger base for supporting legislative issues important to our communities; and a unified voice to address the challenges that face us.

Add one more to that list …

SEDC will be awarding prizes each quarter to the person that signs up the most new members during that quarter (minimum of three).

For the first quarter of the year there’s a bit of extra incentive, though. The first person to sign up three new members will receive John Grisham’s latest novel, The Racketeer, autographed by the author. To qualify the person must turn in the three new members to Laura at the SEDC office and either the membership checks or credit card charges must accompany them.

A two-book award will be given to the person who signs up the most members during the first quarter. Both are autographed by John Grisham – The Racketeer and The Litigators, his most recent novels. The deadline is the last day of March, 2013, for the first quarter awards.

Please sign up new members today or let other people know that they, too, can compete for the awards. For more information contact Laura Guerin at or Membership Chairman Mitch Stennett at
