Membership Information

The Southern Economic Development Council supports its members throughout the American South by providing a network for economic developers, tools and resources to enhance your programs and access to timely information.

Founded in 1946, SEDC was the founding organization for the Industrial Development Institute, now called the Economic Development Institute.

Organization
Tracing our roots to the fall of 1946, SEDC is the oldest and largest regional economic development organization in North America. By joining us, you'll have a network of more than 1,200 economic development professionals operating in 17 states - Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia.

Our members represent a variety of backgrounds - local, regional and state development agencies, chambers of commerce, business and industry, utilities, transportation, finance and education - but share a common interest in having a resource that provides:

  • network and collaborative opportunities
  • timely, concise and relevant information
  • innovative economic development tools
  • opportunities to set responsive public policy
  • development of leadership capabilities

SEDC is a non-profit, 501 (c)(6), membership organization governed by a Board of Directors and Executive Committee.

One director is elected by each member state to serve with elected officers on the Board of Directors.

Our office is located in Atlanta and is managed by a professional staff.
